About Sound Healing

The benefits

Sound Healing combines carefully considered therapeutic sound techniques which have been shown to affect physiology, neurology and spiritually. This has been shown to be very effective at improving health and wellbeing.
Sound therapy techniques are delivered using rhythmic instruments such as Himalayan (metal) and crystal singing bowls, gongs, tuning forks, rain stick, chimes, drum and other percussion tools to deliver a specific order to maximize the therapeutic process.
The sessions specialise in combining instruments in a specific way to influence brainwave frequencies, enabling a person to enter an altered state of consciousness similar to deep relaxation or meditation.
With today’s fast paced 24-hour accessible climate, stress and anxiety is on the increase. Therefore, treatment methodologies that promote relaxation and help reduce stress can be a very effective way to prevent and treat illness.

Sound Healer, gong beater, bowl player

Sian Montgomery

It was during a sound healing session that I got the divine guidance to become a sound healer practitioner and once I accepted my calling, everything seemed to fall into place.

I’ve been carrying out sound baths for about five years.

I’ve attended a number of sound healing courses that have included gong workshops, Tibetan and crystal bowls workshops, voice work (our first sound healing instrument), shamanic drumming workshops, aura healing workshop along with a number of reiki healing courses.

“The more of us that are awakened to the power of frequency, the faster our world will ascend to a place of peace and unity.”

What you need to attend a Sound Healing

Arrive 10-15 minutes before the session starts to get yourself settled.

Bring with you a mat, a good thick blanket/duvet, pillow. Go for comfort. Your body temperature does lower during the session.

Wear comfortable clothing.

Sound baths are healing musical performances played with Himalayan and crystal singing bowls, gong, drumming, and tuning forks. Participants lay on the floor in supported savasana (corpse pose) and let the healing waves of sound wash over them.
Proponents suggest that sound bathing calms our often-overstimulated nervous systems and balances the subtle body. (If you’re not familiar with the subtle body: it’s also known as the energetic body, where our life force – Qi, Chi or prank – exists.) Sound bathing is said to work both the physical body and the subtle body to ease some symptoms of anxiety, physical pain, insomnia and to also aid in meditation practices.

What You Need to Know Before You Go

1. Bring your own mat, thick blanket/duvet, pillow, eye pillow.
Personal comfort is a must for the duration of the session. You need to be as comfortable as possible, which also means allowing yourself to move/change lying positions whilst the sound bath is in session. Not everyone can lie on their back for a long period of time.
Keep in mind that it may feel like a sleepover, with everyone camping out and getting cozy.

2. Be open to an intimate experience.
Many times, the sound healer will have her singing bowls with her in the centre of the room, with everyone spread around her in a circle, bodies close to the bowls. (Greater vibrational healing that way.) It can be intimate as you’re all there for similar reasons, healing. It can feel awkward and vulnerable to those that are new to sound healing. It can be hard to get comfortable and relax. Just breathe into it. It’s wonderful once you let go.

3. You might feel like laughing – or crying.
Go with it. Allow the emotions to be free as sound healing works to release emotions trapped deep in the subtle body.
Emotions can be brought on by a conscious thought. They will be spontaneous and fleeting – a very emotionally, physically and spiritually cleansing experience. Aligning things inside and creating space.
It might happen. Just let it come and go. Remember you’re all there for the same reason; healing.

4. Get ready to be . . . soft.
We often strive so hard with the physical body; we deteriorate the subtle body and lose many of the benefits of our natural being. So, in your sound bath, don’t strive. Don’t even listen. That’s right, don’t listen. Just lay quietly and let the sound wash over you, gently and without effort. Chill out.

5. You will feel the sound in your body.
Have you ever been to a concert where the bass is so thumpin’ you feel your bones vibrating to the beat? That’s the power of sound. Fans of sound bathing believe that specific frequencies of sound can bring our physical and subtle bodies into a state of balance.

6. You might fall asleep.
That’s okay. We receive the healing of sound bathing even if we sleep through the session. (Just try not to snore!) And even if you don’t fall asleep during the sound bath, you might enjoy an intensely deep sleep that night. Often experienced by sound bathers, and it’s one of the most common things people say after sound bathing.

7. Ease yourself back into your world.
If you feel any sense of serenity after your sound bath, protect it. Don’t roll up your mat, hurry into your car, rush home, watch/listen to the news. Don’t answer phone calls or emails – just for a little while. Give yourself time afterwards to absorb the experience. Have a bath, a cup of tea or go straight to bed. Re-enter the noisy chaos of your life slowly and quietly.

I have missed Sian's amazing live soundbaths so much during the past year. They have been a highlight and 'go to' for a while now.
The Sunday nights at Irby are absolutely fantastic, not only that they improve my sleep and pain management. Such a brilliant experience!!
I took a friend this time and he loved it too!

Sian is so lovely and welcoming and I can highly recommend her sound bath and meditation as a healing and soothing experience which left me feeling deeply relaxed and peaceful! I had the best nights sleep afterwards.

I can very highly recommend Sian's Sound Bath and meditation for anyone, particularly people who are stressed or feeling anxious. It's such a beautiful deep relaxation and meditation with a difference! If you struggle to meditate the usual way then definitely try this because all you will be thinking of is the lovely sounds around you and the rippling feeling over your body. You will leave feeling totally relaxed and refreshed
